The Friendship Circle families have spoken and we are excited to announce The Friendship Circle Sports League! This is a real, competitive league with try outs, practices, games and playoffs. But here’s the twist…each team will be comprised of players that are typical kids AND kids with special needs.
We are thrilled to introduce another program that enables the “typical-community” to learn and grow from the priceless life-lessons that children with special needs have to teach us. Patience, teamwork, confidence in others and hard work are only a few of the values that each player will experience.
In this league, each typical child will learn how to put aside their pity and work alongside a fellow child who has special needs. On the first day of try outs, these players will arrive as a single person, unconfident in their understanding of special needs but willing to take a leap. At the end of the season, they will be transformed into a TEAM, working together and confiding in each other’s unique abilities to achieve their shared goal. What a beautiful lesson for our local community.
The underlying goal of Friendship Circle Sports League is to continue building a sense of confidence in the abilities of people with special needs. We aim to educate our everyday citizens that individuals with special needs are productive, contributing members of our community (even star players!) if we only give them the time and the opportunity. And our hope is that one day, these typical players will help promote a society that works side-by-side with people who have special needs and enable them to shine in the light of community inclusion.
