Walk4Friendship and a gift of Love

A letter sent out to friends and family from a Walk4Friendship Participant Dear friends and family, To say this year has been tough would be an understatement. These unfortunate circumstances have shortened our summer and pressed us for time. Back in the spring, I committed to raise $1,800 for The Friendship Circle in their annual fundraiser,Walk4Friendship. And then life happened. Now, as things begin to calm down, I am 3 weeks away from Walk4Friendship and the deadline for fundraising. Although it would be easy to forget about my fundraising and push it off until next year, I refuse to give up.  And to be honest, I am more determined than ever to raise this money for The Friendship Circle. Allow me to explain why… Each day through my window I see a boy riding his scooter up and down the street. Each time this boy sees a neighbor he smiles widely and waves with excitement. That small act lifts the spirit of those who are fortunate enough to see him. But the painful truth is that he is all alone, all the time. No one scoots with him. No one plays basketball or street hockey with him. He happily gives of his love and his beautiful smile while receiving nothing in return. Recently, I met the mother of this boy. And it turns out he has Autism. He is too “high-functioning” to attend a special school. And too “low functioning” to handle a normal school. He has fallen through the cracks of not only our educational system, but also our social system. This summer, I turn 40 years old. And to many people’s surprise, I am excited and enthusiastic to begin this new chapter in life. And although this summer has proven to be a challenge for my family, it is our goal to celebrate my 40th with the greatest gift of all…giving back to those who need it most. If I reach my goal of $1,800, I am going to surprise this beautiful boy with a one-year membership to The Friendship Circle. It is my goal to give this boy (someone I barely even know) the gift of Friendship. Please help me give that gift by making a donation to my Walk4Friendship fundraising campaign. Thank you for your friendship, love and support. By becoming a Power Walker you can give the  gift of Friendship by gifting a Friendship Circle membership to a individual who has special needs.
