Friendship Circle
Fundraising for "Change"
At The Friendship Circle, we are often faced with the challenge of keeping our fundraising campaigns innovative, fun and meaningful. Like most non-profit organizations, fundraising is always going to be a challenge, it never comes easy and perhaps, it never should.
This month, we are launching “Change4Friendship.” This campaign is a traditional coin drive with a twist (literally). In the Ferber Kaufman LifeTown lobby, you will now find a very fun, purple coin vortex well. The donation process is easy. Step one: bring your change into the Friendship Circle lobby. Step two: deposit your change into the coin well. Just before I sat down to write this post, I challenged myself to a very serious, very important case study of the purple vortex well. I wanted to know how many coins, I- Lauren Todaro, could have swirling at once in the vortex. I knew it would take seasoned skill, precise timing and perhaps most importantly-finger agility. Coin after coin after coin after coin, the enchanting sound of metal swirling like a ballerina across a plastic stage baited my attention, clouded my senses and I became unabashedly focused on the swirling coins- too focused actually. My very important research was cut disastrously short when I became dizzy and looked up to find my office hypnotically swirling in front of me. Last I knew, we had decided NOT to transform my office into a new, cutting edge therapy room. Therefore, my senses had to be deceiving me. I came-to and realized- I, Lauren Todaro, had been defeated by the coin well. Dizzy and unable to continue my research, I abandoned the vortex well and staggered out of my office with defeat lingering in my mind. Change4Friendship sounds easy, to the point and moderately safe for your health, right? Well aside from the dizziness, “easy and fun” was not enough for us. We want to ensure that we maintain our reputation as a transparent organization. In fundraising, it is our number one priority to show you, the donors, where your hard earned money goes. Therefore, in December we will be hosting a vote-a-thon to kick off our Change4Friendship campaign. We asked our staff members and a few families what Friendship Circle is lacking in regards to program items and facility needs. We received an array of ideas, five of which will be posted to Facebook for you, our donors, to choose. The chosen item will be posted on the television screen above the coin well and we will collect change for that item specifically. So tell me, how is this for innovative and fun?... I now call upon you to join me in defeating the coin well. Ask yourselves…how many coins can YOU spin at once?? If this challenge is enough to motivate your participation in Change4Friendship, then so be it. Happy coin swirling! For more info visit www.friendshipcircle.org/change
