Three ways Google Glass can help individuals with Special Needs

In 2012, Sergey Brinn, the co-founder of Google won the internet when he introduced Google Glass. Google Glass is a hands-free mini-computer and video camera worn on a pair of glasses. Glass was supposed to be a game changer in wearable technology. The buzz hung around for a year or two until most people yawned and moved on to the next big thing. While most people have forgotten about Google Glass, the special needs community still has high hopes for Glass. Researchers see Google Glass as a valuable tool to help individuals with all types of special needs. In this post, we have listed three ways Google Glass may be helpful for individuals with special needs.

1. Individuals with Autism Understand Expressions and Emotions

In the video above Boston entrepreneur and scientist, Ned Sahin is changing the way those with autism see the world. In an article on Wired.com Stanford University student, Catalin Voss helped build an app for Google Glass that could help individuals with autism recognize emotions.

2. Paralysis/Quadriplegia

Google glass can greatly enhance the lives of individuals who do not have use of their hands. From simple pleasures like taking pictures to making hands-free phone calls and getting directions. Watch this video above.

3. The Blind and Visually Impaired

A company called Open Glass is working to create an application that uses Glass to help individuals who are blind find items and ask the internet what they are seeing. Have more ideas how Google Glass can help? Share it in the comments below.
